Overview: The Putnam Cycling Classic is a challenging recreational cycling event,
run in a format known as “Gran Fondo” - a timed event held on a professional
race course and open to cyclists of all abilities and ages.
The Putnam Cycling Classic is not a race in the true sense –a Gran Fondo can be ridden
either as a flat out effort for time, or as a (somewhat) leisurely ride with friends through
Beautiful Putnam County under controlled road conditions. There is no right or
wrong way to ride in a Gran Fondo.
Date:
May 5, 2013
Start:
Cold Spring, New York
Take Metro-North Railroad’s Hudson Line to Cold Spring Station. The train departs from Grand Central Terminal and arrives at Cold Spring. The Cold Spring station is just steps away from the starting line!
Course:
The Putnam Cycling Classic offers two options: participation in the UCI World Cycling Tour category, which is the long ride for all ages with the exception of The 65+ (which uses the shorter course). The second option is the shorter (yet still challenging) course which, again with the exception of the 65+, does not qualifyfor the UWCT, but is still awarded age-group finishing times.
About The UCI World Cycling Tour (UWCT):
A series of UCI-sanctioned races held all over the world. Some 15 qualifier events will qualify the top 25% finishers in each age group to the UCI Masters Road World Championships, held this September in Italy, where the champions are awarded with the coveted rainbow jersey.
